Personally I don't feel that film is more flexible - film is fixed - it is
always at max resolution - you can't shoot a lower resolution, you can't
change ISO, You can't change image size it is fixed at whatever you load. 

For maximum options when shooting digital you need to shoot raw - the
flexibility comes in the fact that you can choose to trade
exposure/speed/light/grain/size for your intended use.

If you always include a raw image you have exactly the same options as
shooting film you are restricted by the media when using film and by the
sensor with digital.

All IMHO of course.
