I've used a 3rd party battery as my 2nd battery (BP-511) in my 10D
for about six months with excellent results--eg more shots off of that
one that the OEM battery.

Yesterday, my 10D would turn on the with the fully charged battery
inserted. The stock BP-511 worked fine, and two chargers reported
the 3rd party battery full.

Any clues? I would just say that i have a bad battery were it not for
the successful charge.

Matt,

I have been using two generic batteries with D60/10D/BG-ED3 for ages, alternating with two OEMs.

I noticed that the generics, when fully discharged in camera, started to show as partially charged when inserted in the charger.

I figured that they were dying. However, I found some info to suggest that the generics don't contain some circuitry found in the OEMs and consequently "get confused" about how much charge they contain and "report" to the charger.

Running the cameras slide show facility until flat seems to reset the battery's "memory" and makes a full charge possible.

So I think you may have a completely discharged battery telling your chargers it's full !

Can you try a generic charger?
