The optical performance seems to be OK as long as you're not shooting backlit subjects, which is a big minus in my book. >>Very Curious but impoverished.<< Might be better off with the "new" 70-300 IS, then, for less than half as much. If the front of that lens doesn't rotate when it's focusing (my only real gripe with my 75-300IS, the "original" IS lens) then I'll definitely buy one.
