I've had real time now to play with my 5D. But first, a bunch of random things not about the 5D. I saw a guy at the Balloon Fiesta this morning who was toting both a 300D and a 1D. He said he was an art student from California. After talking to quite a few people who had nice cameras there, I've decided that the Arca head and the L shaped rail system is definately the way to go. I spoke to the guys in the Kodak booths. Their part seems small, compared to when Kodak was the major sponsor. Walgreens is the big player now, with photo kiosks inside a fairly large Walgreens tent that was well stocked (like a real Walgreens). The people from the Kodak booth said that since Kodak got out of the film business they are just a subsidary of Walgreens now.
Anyway, on to more about the 5D... I can definately see corner darkening at f/2.8 at various focal lengths (20mm prime and both ends of the 24-70L) in low light conditions. It doesn't pop out at me in brightly lit conditions, but it is probably still there. I forgot to look for it on the few pictures I took on the 100-400L. I'm really quite shocked at how much corner darkening I see. I miss the built in flash. Since I only ever took a few pictures with my 300D and 20D using the built in flash, it is mostly the preparedness issue. I could carry the camera and skip the speedlite and not worry. Now no speedlite might mean no picture. The focus definately feels sluggish, and sometimes it doesn't light up the AF point it selected, which makes me wonder if it focused or not. I'm annoyed that the ISO range extention applies to high and low. I'd like to set them seperately. I'd also like a way to turn off the 1/3 stops of ISO range if I wanted too. The 3fps isn't so bad. I tried it out while the ballons were doing random glows in the predawn launch. I still think the shutter feels and sounds like being licked by a really big dog though. Those are all the notable things I've noted so far. -- void *(*(*schlake(void *))[])(void *); * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
