Not all modern Canon cameras. My Elan II and EOS 5 would consistently give 25 exposures from a roll of 24, but never more than 36 on a roll of 36. Therefore they seem to assume that no roll can be longer than 36, but they don't actually read the DX code. My 10s, OTOH, would only expose 24 frames on the rolls of 24 (and only 36 on a roll of 36), leading me to believe that it does read the DX code. The 10s is a generation older than the EOS 5 and Elan II.
I have no experience with the 1 or 3 series, so it's possible they won't allow more than 24 exposures on the short rolls either.
