I was looking at the EF Lenses brochure I just got from Canon and ran across something I don't understand.

In the description of the EF 17-40mm f/4L USM it says "............ and features the same weather-resistant design, rear gel filter holder, and high speed USM as the EF 16-35mm lens."

Looking at my 17-40 I find a "rear gel filter holder". What am I missing?

My 16-35 has a little metal clip at the rear to hold a small square of gel filter. I have a couple of other lenses with something similar, like a 17mm fisheye-Takumar.

These are sometimes used to allow odd filter use on very wide angle lenses. Used to use these to enable CC filter packs when I still shot colour 35mm.
