This is true... I used to love mine. But I've now had it for about 8 years and it's been dropped a couple of times including waterfalls so maybe mine has had it's useful life. Incidently even though it's been dropped quite heavily it still worked. On the other hand I recently dropped my 16-35L and it died immediately and has cost me over $600Aus to get repaired. The thing I notice most differently between my 28-135IS and my other lenses is that the colour and sharpness aren't quite as good in this lense. It's good and very good compared to the cheaper lenses but just not quite as a good as the more expensive stuff. My dad has one permanently attached to his 10D and he raves and loves his. I don't mind the extra weight of the L's and mostly I'm using primes which are light anyway.
