I like the manual DOF button on the 10d. I'm not sure what the difference is,
this full manual depth system of the 100. The DEP feature does work surprisingly
well, but then you'd have to read the manual and remember how to use it.

I usually find when I want a great DOF, I set for the maximum fstop and shoot
based on focus a third of the way through the DOF. Make a few exposures with
some tweaking and you'll likely have the best you can get.

I believe you can get lens charts and use a tape measure to be more exact, say
with closeup stuff you can measure the distances. I guess Canon and most other
shooters haven't had the problems you have either.
