Servo focus can hunt if your focus point is on something with a solid tone. You
should be able to get a lock on the edge of a traffic sign, but maybe not on the
solid tone part. With tree branches, that's a tough subject.

Remember that servo focus is for moving subjects, on static subjects you should
use one shot focus. Servo focus on some subjects will cause an audible soft
clicking sound, the focus is 'live' all the time.

It's really hard to say if what you experience is normal or not. I would test by
trying to follow a moving subject, since that's what servo focus is for.
