Stan,

Thanks for your input.

Perhaps I should clarify my situation.

My files have used the same numbering convention from the outset:
YYMMDD_xxxx where xxxx is the file number generated by the camera. This is now
done using Breeze Systems Downloader Pro during the download process.

These files live in a folder named: YYMMDD "client name job description".

This folder lives in the client's main folder named: "client name".

All folders reside on the clients' partition.

This has worked just fine for 5 years.

There appears to be no simple way of continuing this reliably, if I use the
files saved to HDD by EOS Capture.

This is complicated by the occasional need to let a client take away a low
res jpeg (I shoot RAW+S4), which I would want to have the same file number
as the RAW, for obvious reasons.

I can manually instruct EOS Capture to start the file naming at xxxx (same
as the camera) then use BreezeBrowser to batch rename everything, but
eventually I will forget to do this.

Hence my original question.

Regards,

CraigZ

To Craig and the group,

Up until the latest release of DPP, I too was a critic of Canon software.
But DPP has been improved and I now I rely on it for all my studio
shooting. I have my 1Ds tethered to a notebook and I get a nice, big
preview on every shot. In addition, after my job, I like the fast review
of selected files on a clean, black screen.

Concerning your question about syncing the computer frame numbers to the
ones on the CF card, I wonder what your complaint is. I fail to see the
elegance in the CF card's numerology: C25U0048. In the computer, I can
assign file names with real meaning, like Jack+Jill 06-01, or with
merchandise SKU numbers.

I think you should be using the computer file tagging to your advantage,
rather than hoping for some automated numerical sequence - or have I
missed something?

Hello all,

Advice, please.

Is there any way the images saved to PC can have the same file number as
saved to the CF card without manual
intervention?

I just want to use continuous numbering.

It seems daft that the program should be so out of sync with the camera!?

Have I missed something?

TIA

CraigZ
