Hello all, I am going to Niger in March. On the 29 March, there will be solar eclipse and we will be there to watch it as well.
I will bring my two cameras with me (30 and D30) and I am looking for advice on photographing the eclipse. I will mainly enjoy it, but since I will have all the equipment with me, I'll take a shot or two. :) Do I need special equipment, or will a normal lens with a polarizer filter be sufficient - I read mentions of Mylar filters, and so on. Are they really necessary? What about exposure? I took some pictures of the moon at ~ISO100, f/11, 1/125 and they look great. As I have not yet witnessed a full eclipse, I don't really imagine how bright the corona is. I read that there is much difference between brightness of corona and the sun itself -- so practical information wanted. :) With film, it is probably best to keep images two frames apart -- it once happened to me, that the sun was at the edge of one frame and it "crept" to the other frame as well.
