You'll see a big difference if you take that camera off of P mode! I use a 1D/1D.2 & 550 but the principal will be the same. The flash, especially the shoe mounted 430 & 550/580, has a ton of power. You should utilize it. When I'm shooting flash I always shoot manual... well, I always shoot manual anyway so... :) Depending on what I'm shooting I'll set the body to 1/60 or 1/125 and at f/8 or higher depending on how much depth of field I want. When you do this you are asking the flash to make the correct exposure and they do a pretty good job of it.
This allows you to control the depth of field and, to some extent, the shutter speed. The flash, unless used as a fill flash, will more than likely be stopping the action instead of the shutter but you'll have more control over everything in M mode. The above applies to the on camera flash as well, it's just not as powerful as the 430/550/580. Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jerome Davin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I finally got a 17-40 L to go with my 20D. Any suggestions on its use for indoors with the pop up flash? On P mode, it is always 1/60 f/4. It seems to work quite well but wonder if there is any tips/etc on using this combo? Would I see a huge difference if using a 430EX instead? * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
