It took a while to test this, but I finally did it. To summarize, what
is the problem in the first place: the images, shown (previewed) on the
camera's look soft -- they are not as sharp as they should be. 

As was speculated, that this is due to a smaller preview image (embedded
in the RAW file, for instance), this is not the case. While that might
be the reason for soft preview images when looking at RAW files, this
occurs with JPEG (fine) images as well. Images look sharp (w/o post
processing) on computer screen, so one would expect them to be sharp on
the LCD preview screen as well.

Now, this does not make sense, as the camera's LCD screen has 282 DPI
resolution (if I calculated that correctly). 2.08" x 1.39" with 230k
pixels in it.

Is there anyone, who gets a sharp preview image on his/her camera's LCD
preview? (20D, 30D, 10D, 5D?)
