Any opinions on either of the lenses? I've read good comments about the
first, but not about the second. The price of the Sigma is much less and
it is a slower lens. Actually, it is pretty slow...

I use both these lenses. I *slightly* prefer the Canon because I occasionally find the extra 2mm on the long end useful (on a wide lens, 2mm can make a real difference). Also, I once critically compared two identical shots, viewed at 100% , one shot taken with each lens, and the Canon was *very slightly* sharper. But the difference was quite subtle. And, allowing for variation in individual copies of lenses, the difference might not always be apparent.

The Sigma is more suceptible to vignetting than the Canon. But this is so easily fixed in post-processing that it might not be important to you.

I've not found the fraction of a stop difference in maximum aperture between the lenses to make much difference in practice.

On the other hand, the Sigma lens is significantly cheaper where I live, and comes with a lens hood and a very good lens case. If price were an important factor, I would choose the Sigma.
