I got a call today from someone who said he thought his son had my camera. His son did have my camera! So, I sadly don't have to file an insurance claim and then make the choice between buying a new 1D mk III or instead upgrading to a 1Ds mk III or even a cheaper 40D and an 80mm f/1.2 L (or some other absurdly nice lens).
My bag has been rifled through, but nothing I remember being in it appears to be missing except the images I had on the card from that day.
