But I get this error, even i think I have gtk 2.8.0+ installed. I am new to Linux, so can you please tell me who can I check which/where gtk I have installed, and how can I make sure the compiler finds it?

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for DEPENDENCIES... Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.8.0' but version of GLib is 2.6.6

You may have installed GTK and GLib 2.8 but the compiler finds an older version. You can try:

- setting up a jhbuild or Garnome environment
(http://www.jamesh.id.au/software/jhbuild/ or http://www.gnome.org/projects/garnome/) to compile Epiphany within a "protected" environment where no system libraries are used but every dependency is compiled separately

- upgrading the glib/gtk library that came with your distro using the tools provided with your distro

- setting the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH to point to the directory on your system where glib-2.0.pc resides. This file should contain a line like 'Version: 2.8.1'. This is the suggestion given in the output you pasted in your message.

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Last but not least, please reply to the [email protected] instead of e-mailing me personally. Thank you for using Epiphany!

regards,
