I'm the person who started the discussion on the ubuntu-devel mailing
list. Nice to see the thread got a lot of reactions. But IMO most of the
arguments against using Epiphany as the default aren't very strong, some
aren't even convincing at all like the popularity of Firefox.

I think it would be a good idea as well to implement a search bar in
Epiphany. You can't expect that the average user will bookmark a search
URL, modify it with the %s and use that as a smart bookmark to search.
It's so hidden this way, a search bar would make it a lot more obvious
and easier accessible for the (average) user.
