Yes, this is definitely something we need to figure out if we want to use the firefox sync service. I don't think changing our internal formats makes much sense, but at worst we could translate them on the fly for syncing purposes, I imagine it would not be a *ton* of work. I think we should create a wiki page with all the information we have so far, I'll get to do that today.
