OK, it's come to my attention that YouTube has recently begun to require media stream extensions (MSE) for higher-quality video playback. It seems some users are able to play 480p and 720p videos, while others (including myself) are stuck with only 360p videos. I'm not sure why it's different for different users. WebKit does not support MSE yet. We have experimental MSE code under active development, but it's not compiled unless you set a hidden build option (-DENABLE_MEDIA_STREAM). I'm CCing one of the developers who might be able to give us an update on progress there.
