My associations with womanhood are impacted by my first and everlasting love murdered in my eyes as I relate in "H..." http://findgeorges.com/ROOT/WRITINGS/LITERATURE/h.html And, perhaps by the Israeli matriarchate, as well as, negatively by the hateful machismo of Spain and Islam. When I hear "woman", three of them come to my mind: 1.Helen Keller, needless to say why. 2.Maria Sklodowska Curie, who escaping the pressure of barbarian, machist Russian occupation became the Queen of her contemporary Physics. 3.Pierrette Paulze - Lavoisier who, at age of 16 completed Newton's mechanics with her concept of kinetic energy and, astounding as it may seem, fell into almost complete oblivion. Maybe not so astonishing after all: she was a woman; she did not belong to any Academy, none would accept a woman in 17th Century; and married to Lavoisier she was overshadowed by him. Not by his fault. She married him at age of 13 and from the first day became his full-fledged collaborator, which he emphasized at every occasion so that the rare cognoscenti who heard about her call them "Father and Mother of Chemistry". But there it is, hardly anybody heard about her. Alex may be "woman" for her physician or "female" for a biologist. For me she is a Lady. And I sing "Oh, Lady be Welcome!" to the still resonating in my head tune "Oh, Lady be Good!". Who'll join in the chorus? Georges. ============== --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Epistemology" group.
