By this facility insane ideas that lead to aggression and war arise from the same mouths as elevated words of wisdom of religion and ideas. It is via the ability to form words into sentences that thing gain momentum in the very day world, also in this realm of communication. It was with this facility that the Sage of the Sakya clan {The Buddha} could utter the first words of his teaching when he first spoke in Deer Park Varanasi with the Four Noble Truths. The sound of music can be pleasurable but it can also be used to utter words of wisdom to influence others into becoming thinking beings able to reason and communicate inspirational ideas that lead to a more elevated consciousness which lead to freedom beyond the realm of sensual repetition and bound to the wheel of life and death. The seventeenth century Tibetan Lama of the Karma Kagyu tradition Karma Chagme says in {A Spacious Path to Freedom; practical instructions on the union of Mahamudra and Atiyoga} and commentary by Gyatrul Rinpoche, translated by B Allan Wallace. {The Compendium of Hearing states “Upon entering a building That is engulfed in darkness one does not see the presence of visual form even though one has eyes Likewise a person of good breeding Even one who is intelligent does not know sinful various things Until he hears of them Just as one with eyes and a lamp see forms So are virtuous and sinful things known to the hearing….” The Corpus Sutra states; “Phenomena are known as a result of hearing sin is averted as a result of hearing; That which is meaningless is rejected as a result of hearing”… Birth Accounts says “Due to hearing, the mind becomes lucid, joyful and stable Wisdom arises and delusion vanishes even if you know this it is worth acquiring”… The Sutra of the questions of Prince Chandra also says this; “Hearing is the lamp that dispels the darkness of delusion It is the best possession that cannot be carried off by thieves and so on It is the weapon that vanquishes the enemy, stupidity It is the best of friends who gives advice on how to act It is the steadfast friend even if you become poor It is harmless medicine for the illness of grief It is the best of armies that conquers the host of great evils And it is the best of treasures of fame and glory When meeting honourable people, it is the best of beings In public it delights the learned To opponents it is like the rays of the sun… Gyatrul Rinpoche comments “Without learning we are not able to recognise our own mental afflictions.
