Sine record keeping started the temperature has slowly risen over the
years but this year has set a record itself- it’s the warmest year
recorded so far. This year has had the warmest average temperature for
January-June on record 57.5 F (12.2 C).The fact was brought to light
by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. June saw the
worst of heat sending the average temperature for the half year of
2010 to higher than expected.

The climate analysis chief Jay Lawrimore said “Global temperatures
have been rising for the last 100-plus years. Much of the increase is
due to increases in greenhouse gases.” The average temperature in June
was 61.1 degrees Fahrenheit (16.2 Celsius), worldwide the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said on Thursday. That was 1.22
degrees F (0.68 C) warmer than average for June.

But there were some exceptions to this worldwide trend. The
temperature at some parts of the southern china and northern US
recorded a little low temperatures than expected of the global trend.
Then there was Peru, eastern US and western Asia that recorded
temperatures warmer than normal.

The rising temperature has indicated an increase in the natural
disasters like floods droughts and storms. As explained by the
analysts that the increasing temperatures increases the capacity of
atmosphere to hold more water. This leads to an increase in the
rainfall and causing floods. The floods and droughts will be seen in
adjacent places. Heavy snow too will be recorded. Droughts are likely
to be more severe and heat waves more frequent.

Besides the temperatures the factor raising alarms is the level of sea
water and the rapidly melting polar ice. NOAA said that Arctic sea ice
covered 4.2 million square miles (10.9 million square kilometers).
This is the lowest June coverage since records began in 1979 and 10.6
percent below the 1979-2000 average. It is the 19th consecutive June
with below average sea ice. The melting ice sounds the danger of
submerging coastal areas.

But some other agencies say that the picture presented by the
government on the climate issue is not as grim and there is still some
time left to make amends and save the Earth from global warming and
its aftermaths.
