Warmest year since 1980. That would imply that there were warmer years
Before 1980.

There is a potential serious problem with experimental error.
The earth does not have a bum that you can simply stick a thermometer
into it.

Thankfully the earth is still warming after the last glacial maximum
of 18Kbp.
It is 'warming' to know that the interstadial we are currently
enjoying will not turn back towards the more common state of
freezing. Where I am now the most common condition over the last 60k
years is for there to be a mile high glacier outside in the street.
So thanks for the reassurance that the current atypical warm period is
not yet over - as I would hate to have to emigrate from England.
