You shouldn't start epoptes-client manually, please revert your changes and 
re-test.
There are two epoptes-client instances for each client.
One that runs as root is started from /etc/network/if-up.d/epoptes-client.
One that runs as the user is started from 
/etc/xdg/autostart/epoptes-client.desktop.

If for some reason following the installation steps
(http://www.epoptes.org/installation) didn't work out of the box for
you, we should start from there.
