Could you open one gnome-terminal for the "teacher" and one the "student",
and paste here the output of this command for both of them?

  shift key does not work when assisting user

Bug description:
  I'm using epoptes and epoptes-client 0.54 under Ubuntu 10.04 with LTSP
  thin-clients and when I try and assist a user both shift keys do not
  work.
