Do you have a gigabit connection on your server? How many clients do you have?
If you get 50mbps per client in the speed test, and you still think that the
screen refresh rate is slow, then you can try creating a vnc wrapper to pass
whatever parameters you want to x11vnc and/or xvnc4viewer. More about that
after the speed test. :)
