These are present because the Equinox download is now a p2 repository rather than a simple zip of plugins. These "blobs" are the pack200.gzip variants of the artifacts (bundles, native bits, etc). I'm not sure if we intended for those to be there, but it certainly helps if you are using such a repository over a remote connection.
