As for the osgi.noshutdown property, is it possible its description to be changed, so that this becomes clear from it? Beacuse the current description suggests that it really keeps the framework alive. Another option is to have one of your bundles start an non-daemon thread itself. This has issues though because once your bundle stops (which should stop its own thread) then the VM will stop. As far as I can see, in this case the only way to keep the framework running without any applications is to use the property osgi.framework.activeThreadType and cannot be achieved with osgi.noshutdown. If you are running no eclipse application then the main thread will be returned back to the launcher (org.eclipse.equinox.launcher jar) immediately. If you are not using org.eclipse.equinox.launcher to start equinox then you may not need this option. If you are just using java -jar org.eclipse.osgi.jar then this option is automatically set for you. The way to shutdown any OSGi framework is to call Bundle.stop() on the system bundle (bundle id = 0) BundleContext context = getContext() context.getBundle(0).stop(); HTH. In this case, how can we achieve running the framework with no application, and without the -console option, if possible?
