As I said in my first post. I have Metastock 10.1c installed on my XP Pro (32
bit computer). I want to move it and my settings, data, etc., to my new Win 7
Pro (64 bit) desktop computer. I spoke to Tad in Metastock support on 6/6, and
along with my subsequent experience in the actual work, here are the steps
required to get 'everything'.

1. Install Metastock from the CD to the new computer. Then close it. Do this
step first. Otherwise some of the folders/files you copy below will be
overwritten.
2. Open Metastock on your XP. Go to Tools->Indicator Builder-> Organizer.
Select Export formula files, and then Next. For me, there were 4 categories:
Custom Indicators, System Tests, Explorations, and Experts. For each, highlight
ALL formulas. Save to a file. I found easiest to put on a USB stick. Close
Metastock on the XP.
3. While on the XP computer. Open Explorer. Go to Program Files…Metastock.
From the 'Metastock folder', copy: history.dta & favorites.dta.
4. Copy the following Metastock sub-folders: Charts, COMMLIST, EQ_SLIST,
External Function DLLs and Online TradingDLLs.
5. From 'The Downloader' folder, copy: data.dat & tickers.dta
6. Copy the 'ReutersDataLinkData' folder (or wherever your data is stored)
from D: on the XP to D: on the new computer. It is important that the directory
location is exactly the same on both computers; since each of the entries
refers to the location it had on the XP.
7. Open Metastock on the new computer. Go to Tools->Indicator Builder->
Organizer. Select Import formula files, and import from the USB. (If you do
this before step #4, you will get a lot of 'cannot find DLL' type errors.)
8. Close Metastock on the new computer.
9. Go to the Metastock support website:
http://www.metastock.com/customer/support/download/Symbols.aspx Download
whatever of these are appropriate. Is easiest if you install them on your
desktop. For me they are: MutualFunds.exe, CommonIndices.exe, Nasdaq100.exe and
ETFs.exe. After download, must right click and 'Run as Administrator'.
Otherwise will not be installed.
10. Then go to:
http://www.metastock.com/customer/support/download/UpdatesAndPatches.aspx
Install the 'MetaStock US Daylight Saving Fix for versions 8.0 through 10.0'.
11. Open Metastock. Go to Tools->Update Symbols Database. Then Close
Metastock, and reopen. This will allow the database to be updated.
12. Go back to Program Files->Metastock folder on XP. If there are any other
folders you added, copy them now. For me they are: Larsen N'letters,
MorrisIndicators, OtherFormulas and TradeEquity.

This should get almost everything. Open Metastock on both computers, and check
to see if all settings are correct and data installed correctly. NOTE: I found
that I had to go to View->Toolbars->Custom toolbar properties, and manually
recreate them. But since I made a mistake my transferring some of the above
files/folders before I installed Metastock on the new computer, this manual
step may not be required. I also had to manually recreate my Lists in the
Downloader, but again it may have been because of transferring files too soon.
There also may be a few items that need manual adjustment.

Hope this helps,

Harry
