After weighing everything I think it's the Lowrance 500. The Lowrance site is very good and gives you a number of actual maps and charts to compare. They compare very favorably with the Garmin for marine use (I have an older Garmin so it's easy for me to compare).
Being new to flying and at this point not intending to go very far the 500 seems adaquate.

Now lets get back to the Garmin in 8 ft. of water, this has got to be good.
