I grew up desperately loving airplanes and everything about them. I built models, but really wanted to fly. I kind of forget about it in college, but about 10 years ago I actually started lessons. I accumulated a bunch of hours, but never finished ground school and never took my written and never soloed. I even bought a plane, but that was a bad experience, and I finally dumped it at a large loss. Then my kids began college, and for a while I was paying tuition for four kids and my wife, who was finishing up her teaching certificate. Things were quite tight, and I was sick of the whole thing, so I quit. Now I have just one kid in college, and he'll be done next year, and my financial situation is better, so I bought an Ercoupe and have been working to get my license. I am ready to solo, and weather permitting will do so tomorrow. I took the written Wednesday, so that's out the way. I took the Gleim on-line ground school, and for $99 it's a great way to get that underlying information that the instructor builds on. I'm planning a cross country tomorrow, another next week, then my solo work, and I want to take my test at the end of April or early May. I'm going to take the practical test in a C150, just do I don't have the 2-control restriction on my license. About 30 hours of my training was in C150s. I'm 54 now, and I'm planning on many years of bopping around the country in my 415C.
