Hi all,
I am happy to see that I’m slightly below the median
age of our group at 52 years old. This year is my 36th year of
flying and I’ve only racked up 495 hours to far. 220 of the hours are
in my Ercoupe in the past two and a half years since I got it. I started
flying when I was 19 years old. What hooked me was going for about a 20
minute flight in the right seat of a Tripacer when I was about 10 years
old. The pilot let me “steer” the plane for a few minutes of
the flight, and I can still remember is like it was yesterday. Pure joy.
My Dad would take me to the local airports on Sundays and we would watch the
planes take off and land and listen to them on his VHF receiver. I had quite a
collection of Cessna sales brochures I read and reread that I picked up at the
Troutdale, OR airport. I can see the same thrill whenever I am fortunate
to take someone for their first small airplane ride. What a blessing it
is to give someone that great first experience.
