Whatever it is, it's always linked to politics and the "What
can you do for me" attitude of those elected officials. Unfortunately,
that's what makes the world go around, it'll never change and we'll never know
what is underlying. I will say that if and when user fees are initiated,
more and more folks will abandon their use of filing flight plans, using flight
following and other related services, and rely on what's available for free
via the internet and the media. Not a good idea but certainly the way
it'll go.

The FAA is such a huge, top heavy, inefficient, unionized bureaucracy, that I doubt any Administrator could resolve the problem of dipping into trust funds to pay for operations. I hear the Unions are banging the drums of change again. I remember what happened once before under an outspoken, Republican President, and we somehow survived. Canada has instituted user fees and is finding collection of same to be not worth the time and effort. One thing I do see is the EAA comparison of the Airways system to the Highways system. Boy, wouldn't it be fun if we all got a bill each month for $ 0.25 for each mile we drove. We will become a country cooped up in our houses watching satellite TV which will deteriorate to 6 minutes of content to 54 minutes of advertising and promotion every hour.I think I woke up on the wrong side of bed, again!Wayne
