Hi.
Glad to see some controversy over my earlier posting about fuel line overheating.  First, I am Canadian and am under our "Owners Maintenance" program, which enables us to work on problems such as this without fear of the Bougey Man (F.A.A.).  I am well aware of how many people, especially in the U.S. feel about being your own doctor.  I cannot tell anyone to do as I do, but I know it worked for me, and that is who I'm concerned about when I'm up there flapping along.  Some would sooner die than question authority.  As to using a fire sleeve, it is good at keeping those pesky flames off your fuel lines, but it doesn't have the heavy insulation property needed.   If the foam wrapping I used catches fire when wrapped in several layers of foil, I've already got a major fire under way, which the fuel line would quite likely survive nicely while the rest of the plane looks like a shooting star.  If there is no such mod as this for the coupe, someone should look into it.  I would be willing to bet many coupes have gone down with this problem with no one ever knowing what really happened.   I feel very fortunate to be able to carefully experiment with improvements such as using gear oil in the main gear legs to give a MUCH softer landing, and several other simple, common sense things to make the plane safer, and more enjoyable to fly.  I look forward to hearing more response and flak.  That's why my coupe is called Flak Magnet!
