Good morning, folks.  Alon 6554Q has just sold to a fellow moving up from Miami to Atlanta.  I’ve given him this site name, and I’m sure he’ll be engaging you all for much information.  He’ll be staying here in Atlanta, so I’ll get to visit sometimes.

As a follow up to my Ebay project, expecting to sell an airplane directly via ebay is probably not realistic.  Fact is, there is something not 100% in EVERY airplane, and any prospective buyer could find it, and cancel their obligation.  From a buyer’s perspective, there is no time for a pre-buy before you bid, so the whole thing is pretty “contrary to the concept of pre-buy as a good practice” as has been pointed out before.  Even once you win, there’s a lot up in the air, and you’ve still never seen the airplane.   Ergo, your bid probably won’t get high enough to satisfy your needs as a seller.  I know, people often do sell them, and at the price they want.  Just from my experience, and talking with buyers, etc. it seems unlikely.

That said, I DO think that listing an airplane on Ebay is a wonderful idea.  I had 3 very interested buyers come of it.  It’s great advertising, and for $40.  Not to mention, it’s kind of interesting…like a video game.

It should be noted that I did not get what I wanted for the airplane, but quite honestly that’s my fault for not wanting to put any time into it.  I have handled the entire transaction as something I simply wanted to get done with, partially because I already have another airplane, and largely because I don’t have the patience for the phone calls, meeting people at the airport, yaddah yaddah.  I’ve got a full time job.  A couple of thousand is worth being done.  Time is money kinda thing.

Basically, I’d do it again.

The Alon is a great little plane, as was my 415 without pedals.  I’m simply trading because my use has changed…more long trips carrying stuff than I envisioned.  I’m moving to a Traveler, because that ability to open the hatch is addictive, and the Traveler fits all the requirements.  It’s kinda like an M-10 on steroids, I guess.

Anyhow, welcome the new guy when he shows up, THANK YOU TO ALL for both the questions answered over the last year, thanks the thought provoking discussions, and good luck to all on the list.  Fly safe.

Stephen.

N6554Q ’65 Alon (until the check clears  J!)
