Two were held in Wisconsin the third week in July so we would be able to go to Oshkosh (1986 & 1993), one was held in California in September to avoid the summer fog, and one was held in North Carolina in September to avoid the high prices of summer. The June dates just started, I think, three years ago. I don't know why. I also prefer July.

I'm not sure of the history of the National Convention or how the dates are selected. Maybe some of the long time members can chime in.
