"Ban Carb Heat," Says Safety Group

Ofergodsake.

Do they think this is new news? They act like they do.

They inform us that:

1) Fuel injection is better than a carburetor
...Duh. We've known that since around 1925
2) Carbs that are constantly warm make less ice
...Ever notice the diff between A- C- and O- series
Continentals and Lycoming O-320 and O-360s? Yup,
one is that the carb is warmed all the time. Which is
why Piper doesn't recommend carb heat except as
needed on Cherokees (Cessna, out of habit, still
recommends heat in reduced power situations on
172s, even though the vulnerable O-300 has been
      history for 30 years.)
3)  Heated induction? Oh great, let's decrease both fuel
efficiency and power all the time. Not to mention that
you can't blindly warm the air coming in because you
might take it right up to the temperature where you are
more likely to have ice form

Note they don't mention things like ice intake temperature gauges
and carb-ice detection systems. Nor suggest that such devices
maybe be combined with an automatic induction heater.

Really, it looks to me like somebody got a grant to write up what
we've all known for more than 50 years.
