Hi Stephen, I presume when you refer to the "Owner's Manual" you mean the Ercoupe Instruction Manual. Every C Model pilot should keep this booklet in the plane as a source of wisdom. 3439H is on registry as a 415-C, so all you (legally) have to have in the cockpit (in terms of operational data) is a single sheet that was published as Ercoupe Information Letter No. 2 as "Model C Flight Manual". It shows no V speeds or takeoff and landing data, but there is the applicable CG range of 26.4" and 30.3". There is some good information in Ercoupe Information Letter No. 3 entitled "Cruise COntrol Tables" for the Model C and CD with the metal prop. I also highly recommend carrying the Flight Manual for the 415-D, as much of the information can be usefully applied to flying the C Model. There are airplane and engine limitations (for instrument marking), and tables for Take Off Distance, Landing Distance, Climb and Stall Speed, And Crosswind Data. There is a correction chart for the airspeed indicator, and helpful Weight and Balance information. While some, such as the Weight and Balance, incorporate the different limits and maximum gross weight of the D Model, you you can plug the right values for the C Model or that you derive from flight testing in certain places and extrapolate useful information. Data derived at 1400 lb. gross becomes more conservative at lighter weights, and safer when we fly in other than "standard day" conditions. While wine may improve with proper aging, aircraft do not. As most Ercoupes approach their 60th birthday, most have gained weight and some looseness in things once tight (like this pilot). Check out the indicated values in your bird (always at a safe altitude) at the maximum weight you operate cross-country. This includes learning how to lean in cruise and for maximum take-off power from airports above 5000'. If your observed performance is significantly different that that published (corrected as appropriate), this is your indication that something is not as it should be with your bird. Have someone competent check it out. You're already ahead of the game by asking great questions like this one! Regards, William R.
