I have an expanded scale EGT, and lean for 1460 EGT. These aren't 'big Continentals' like Bonanzas, churning their guts out. You're leaning to keep the valves and plugs clean of lead, and for fuel economy. I know my procedure is good, because when the plugs are inspected, they are nice and tidy, but don't show an overly white color.
