Don:

You might check for compliance with the Gascolator A/D 2002-16-04. I
thought my carb was leaking but it ended up being the gascolator fittings
identified in the AD. If the gascolator comes off the carb on a hard line,
check the fittings for leaks - especially the inboard fittings. If it is
in
compliance, the Gascolator will have two braces supporting the outboard
fitting and will not have aluminum fittings on the line. The AD specifies
brass or steel fittings. When I bought my Coupe, it was signed off but
wasn't in compliance with the fittings requirement. It developed a leak
that ran down to the bottom of the carb. A new STC's gascolator from
Skyport (I think it was $89.00 - cheap) and brass fittings fixed my leak.

Here is a link to the AD:

Don:

Generally when a Stromberg is leaking the problem is in the needle and
seat. What parts to order is a sort of religious question and the answer
depends on what is in your carb currently and which sect of Strombergism
you subscribe to.

I believe there are 2 sects worth considering. The first believes in the
original seat and steel needle. The second worships the "new" style seat
and Delrin needle. The neoprene tipped needle is only good for "if it
ain't broke" situations, which doesn't sound like your situation. Carbs
that have the neoprene needle *should* have the late style seat, but don't
bet on it... Changing to the Delrin needle requires the addition of a
weight to the float arm.

Other causes include a piece of detritus or worn float pivots preventing
the needle from closing properly.

The needle and seat combos are not cheap, so you probably don't want to
order something and then find out you can't use it. Also, even though the
Stromberg is as complex as a rock, there are a lot of subtleties w.r.t.
parts interactions and therefor I recommend you have someone skilled in
the
art work on it. Many of today's A&Ps are Marvel bigots and look down
their
noses at the Strombergs, IMHO because they don't understand them (see rock
comment above...) The likelihood of one of these effectively fixing one
is
questionable....

So, you'll need a gasket set and likely a needle and possibly a seat, or
the drain plug could just be loose...

Oh, the tech list address is correct. My guess is the list is being
actively moderated after the recent decent into swearing and spitting...
