Hi,
Today while trying to remove a rod end bearing from my aileron puhrod the pushrod collapsed.  I was using an open end wrench on the old bearing and I had the pushrod in a 5/8 collet in an attempt not to damage it.

Please note that I was applying more force than the pushrod would experience during flight.

The rod end bearings were possibly over tightened or corroded into the pushrod.

My main concern is that there may be a potential corrosion problem with some push rods.

My mechanic said that he would have a look at them and send them to Transport Canada for further assessment.  I felt that in the meantime that I should let the list know.  If someone is in the middle of an annual and their rod ends are frozen they may want to take a better look at them.  The walls looked very thin in the area where the pushrod collapsed. It did not fold over, it twisted in on itself.

I have no formal training concerning aircraft.  I just felt that I should inform the list rather than wait for an assessment and have something happen to someone in the meantime.  If left on these rod ends may have never failed under normal conditions.

I will try to keep the list posted and I will put up pictures when I get the push rods back.

Still working on my control system (rudders are next)
