IFR cert may be as little as a radio and a VOR. The aircraft's pitot and
static system must be checked as does the altimeter. Now for different
approaches, you'll need different goodies. For example to shoot an ILS,
you'll need a glide slope receiver/indicator and marker beacon receiver.
Don't forget about that stopwatch/clock! An IFR GPS/COM needs a head and
annunciators to be /G. Remember that when taking your check ride, you'll
be
made to shoot an approach, go missed and probably do a hold with each
piece
of equipment you have. If you have just a VOR, you'll only be asked to
use
that. Glide slope, DME, ADF, GPS, etc, if you got 'em you'll need to show
you can use 'em. Plenty of used equipment out there that is being taken
out
for upgrades. Check Ebay and your local pilot hangout. Another good
place
is the AOPA classifieds.
