Tim::

Congratulations on your return to Civilian life. I have never planned
more
than a three hundred mile leg when I do a cross country. By so doing you
never get into the header tank and three hours is about all you will want
to
sit for three legs a day. I would think maybe two legs will be max at
this
time of year.

My trip would be:: San Diego to Tucson to Las Vegas NM up through Raton
Pass to Pueblo Colorado to Salina Kansas, Des Moines, Rochester and
Minneapolis. Maybe not exactly that route, but something similar.

I have not found that the lack of climb necessarily extends the cruise
range, but of course, I never really push the cruise limits of the coupe.
I
only did it once and it cured me forever I went from Wendover, Utah to
Casper, Wyoming on a hot summer day, and I put 24 gallons of fuel in the
airplane at Casper. I have no idea where the fuel came from that we
burned
the last half hour.

Be sure to "lean" above about three thousand feet. and lean by consistent

EGT of about 1300 to 1450 degrees.

PS :: prepare for great Weather and culture shock!
