I've always held that the glide ratio of an Ercoupe was similar to a 900 lb cook stove.  I'd personally believe the 6:1 before 9 or 10.  But, I haven't done any testing to confirm this.  I just know a glider she aint.

I do NOT believe the glide ratio (at best glide speed somewhere near 75 mph) is ANYWHERE near 6:1.  I’m betting 9:1 or 10:1.

This is based on actual testing at every 5 mph increment from minimum flying speed to about 85 mph.  I had a bad airspeed indicator so my initial forward feet per second calculations weren’t valid.  But even with adjusting for the known error, it was no where near 6:1.

I’ll grant that at minimum flying speed it is close to 6:1.

The published Glide Ratio for an M-10 is 6:1.  Harry

thanks for taking the time Harry.
6:1 is not bad considering that a C150 glides 15miles from 10k agl;  thats a
7.9:1 ratio. not bad for the ercoupe, considering is it wasn't designed to be a trainer.  so why do coupers say it sinks like a rock?  is this unwarrented?
