thanks for detailed response. putting the straps on the outside of the plane is the weird part. must be so it remains balanced. they don't go on the outside of say, a Kolb. they just attach to the frame. maybe it's to keep the plane from spinning too much. sure do have a good safety record though. what do you think would happen if you just put it in without the 337? and the guy who signed off you annuals kept quiet?

If you mounted one without an approved form 337, and your next AI signed off the plane after an annual inspection without correcting the paperwork problem, he’d be susceptible to loosing his AI/A&P license or getting a long suspension. I wouldn’t put my A&P/AI in that position.
