Two monks came to a river, where an old woman was waiting to cross.
The current was obviously more than she could safely handle.

One of them picked her up and carried her across the river, and the
monks, and the woman, went in opposite ways on the opposite side.

Four hours later, the second monk said to his companion, who had
carried the woman across the river 'Why did you do that? You know
very well that we are forbidden by our vows from touching a woman.'

The monk who had done the act of kindness said to his companion:

'Why can't you set that woman down? I did, nearly four hours ago.'
