I DON'T WANT to discourage you from asking your engineer. But. The Coupe spars were an extrusion with extruded caps if my casual knowledge is correct. There's been some muttering about trying to get new wing spars made but it has fallen through due to the extreme cost of tooling. Perhaps you could persuade the FAA to sign off on a spar made in a considerably different way. Good luck on getting a chicken FAA wienie to sign off on a replacement spar of a different design. So far as I know, we've been able to find enough parts to rebuild the planes with bad spars up to this point. With the AD this year, that situation may change radically. If we are to continue to keep these old birds airworthy, we need to take a pro-active approach. I'm sure that there would be some development cost, structural load analysis and such. At work, we have an outside DER review all of our structural modifications. Is it worth starting a dialog with him? Feed back, anybody? Coupers. I sent this last night to the coupers-tech list. I think it is interesting for every one. So here my posting again. Hartmut -------- Original Message -------- From: Hartmut <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: C-section & corrosion. To: Coupers Tech <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Coupers. I finally opened up the center section to remove the corrosion we found today. To avoid the data congestion, I prepared a little page with six images to look at . Check it out and learn from the tragedies of others. grin http://home.pacbell.net/hbeil/ercoupe/corrosion.htm Hartmut ========================================================================== == == To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm ========================================================================== == == To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm ========================================================================== ==== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
