David, it may be cost prohibitive getting around the O.E.M. issue. That appears to have been the stumbling block in the past, just look at what the owners of Lake amphibs just went through. I don't know if they ever did get approval to go around the O.E.M. and their repairs were really expensive. I wish you luck,Pete -----Original Message----- From: Hartmut [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 11:11 PM To: David Johnson Cc: Ercoupe Tech List Subject: Re: [COUPERS-TECH] RE: [COUPERS-FLYIN] C-section & corrosion ----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- David. Pro-active engagement seems to be a good thing. Especially when it comes to our old birds, considering the fact that Univair doubles all prices for parts every 5 years or so. The corrosion within the center section might not be limited to the main spar though. It usually affects only the spar caps from what I have seen so far. These spar caps are priced ridiculously. For the center section : 120 -13027 ercoupe upper capstrip $2,032.29 120 -13028 ercoupe lower capstrip $2,739.70 120 -13128 ercoupe beam lower capstrip $2,739.70 If someone could find a suitable replacement here, repairs might get economical. They are currently not, because if you really get the main spar out and compare the price for the strips with the the cost of complete spars then you'll realize that repairs are not sense making financially, if you are forced to use premium prized Univair parts. 120 -13002 ercoupe front center beam $4,626.63 120 -13102 ercoupe center section beam $5,602.30 I would after finding a provider for such extrusions work together with Skyport to 1. push a STC through and 2. get them to order in a bigger amount to keep the costs small.
