Jim.
The " ecologist" are part of "we (the American public) " . So what do
you recommend ? A civil killing to solve the energy problems of the
industrial Countries ? That seems inefficient. Since the few cars less
driven are not outweighing the gasoline thirst of the new generation of
Cars in the US (Hummer 2).
I say have a look what other countries do (countries with less power in
the middle east) .
Europe for example is replacing it's gasoline car fleet with diesel
engines since 2 decades. The power weight ratio of the vehicles is
moderate in the lower region - means small, lightweight and efficient
cars.
Their gas is 4 to five times higher in price and with prices like that,
you just don't want your SUV anymore.

However It is the US Car/oil industry who fights every attempt to bring
efficiency into US Auto vehicles.
Not Ecologists. With more and more cars on the roads needing more and
more gas the US resources were maxed out probably since the sixties. I
always thought that the Americans were smart by buying the cheap oil in
the middle east and keeping it's own land clean and also spare the own
resources for emergencies. But it seems this is not so . No smartness,
just "ecologist" which we now will shot dead to ... what again??

But this discussion is probably not placed right in this forum. The only
connection I see in Gasoline and Ercoupes is that they - the Ercoupes -
need some.
