As an ANS volunteer for 'my' airport, I received this distribution to AOPA's Airport Support Network offering an explanation regarding Mayor Daley's action of closing Meigs. FYI It is sort of long, but worth the read.
That is basically what is on the AOPA site. And as an AOPA member (for now) I
DO NOT LIKE IT ONE BIT. It seems to me that AOPA has essentially given up
the fight and said 'oh well, we lost this one, but it can't happen elsewhere.'
I'm tired of this 'kindler gentler' AOPA. I'm tired of Phil Boyer and Andy Cebula
putting 'good working relationships' with some of the most scurrilous politicians
out there over telling it like it is and raising some good old-fashioned hell.
I'm tired of an AOPA that identifies 'friends' in Congress at election time but
is unwilling to call an enemy an enemy.
The AOPA should be calling on its members to initiate 'consumer action' against
Chicago and against Illinois. The AOPA should be withdrawing any interest it has
in Chicago and Illinois business until such time as it is represented by honest
people who keep their words.
The AOPA's PAC should be sending a mailing out to Illinois pilots calling upon them
to VOTE AGAINST these guys.
But they won't. They'll make nice nice.
